New Comic Book Characters Art Ryan Reynolds As Green Lantern

My new comic book character painting is of Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern. Work is in progress on a Green Lantern movie starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan and Green Lantern. From what I understand the costume will actually be CG. It’ll be interesting to see how they pull that off.

This painting is based on the Entertainment Weekly cover that features Reynolds as Green Lantern. Like all of my paintings, this one was done in oils. I apologize for not having a break like I usually do from pencils to final product, but I was working on a commission at the same time I was doing this and it slipped my mind to get photos of the progress.

I have this painting up for sell on eBay. If you would like to buy it just click this Green Lantern link and check it out.

Comic Book Character Commission – Superman vs Darkseid

This Superman vs. Darkseid painting is the fifth in a series of DC comic book character commissions that a guy named Zach has had done. As I mentioned in the Wonder Woman Commission post, he also plans to have two more DC comics characters done before the end of the year, which will makeup all of the original Justice League.

Zach also tells that in 2011 will have me do Marvel comic characters from the Avengers. He has had me do the commissions based on models of the characters and if he continues that form, it will be interesting to see what he has in store for me.

Okay, these are the steps I took to do this painting.

My New Comic Book Character Commission – Wonder Woman

First of all I want to apologize for not posting for so long, I have been working on some other projects not related to art. Anyway I'm back and this week I will be posting some new art I have done.

I want to start out by showing you the newest Wonder Woman painting I did. This was a commissioned painting for a guy who has far had four paintings done including this one. I am also working in the process of working on a Superman commission for him and he plans to have two more done before the end of this year.

Okay, here are the steps it took for me to do this painting.

Creating Your Own Super Villain

Okay we’ve already talked about creating superheroes and creating female superheroes, but where would they be without their counterpart, the super villain? So today we will create one. We’ll use the same techniques that we used to create our heroes.

Our villain will be able to control people’s minds and bust the blood vessels in their brains. Our villain’s name will be Mind Blow.

As you know by now this will be a simple drawing starting with the body shapes just to get the costume design.

First well do our front, back and side view shapes.

Our villain will be wearing a mask so we’ll put that in as we do the costume design.

Now lets put some muscle tone and a few details.

Do the color and we’re done. Oh and you might have noticed that I made a mistake on the side view armband. I made it shorter. OOOPS!

If you would like to see more detail of how to do this check out my How To Make Your Own Super Villain video.

Whatever comic book characters you are creating, the steps we used to create the superhero, female superhero and the super villain will work well.

Here is a great book on creating superheroes and villains.

Creating Your Own Female Superheroes

Yesterday we created a superhero male. Today lets create a female superhero. For the most part creating female superheroes is the same as creating their male counterparts. But when you create your female hero you what her to look sexy.

Okay, my female superhero will be able to multiply the moisture in the air into a wave of water as well as control any water that is around her. She will also be able to ride the water waves she creates.

The name of our water controlling female hero will be Splash. She will be in her middle thirties with long black hair with a white streak on the front that goes all the down that back of her hair. Now, on to the design.

Once again this will be a simple drawing just to get the design. Start with the shapes for the body with the front, back and side view.

Splash will have no mask so I will work in the face and the costume, which is like a one-piece swimsuit that covers her neck and leaves her shoulders, arms and legs exposed. She will have high boots and long gloves that come up to her biceps.

Now I’ll add a little detail.

Add some coloring pencil and we are done.

If you would like to see more detail of how to do this check out my How To Make Your Own Female Superhero video and then go create your own female superheroes and see how much it can be.

Next we'll create a super villain.

Here is a great book on creating superheroes and villains.

Creating Your Own Comic Book Superheroes

Today lets create a comic book superhero. Creating comic book superheroes is not as simple as it may seem, it takes a lot of thought. You have to think of a name for your hero, what powers your hero will have, what his costume will look like and what your hero will look like as a civilian.

I’m going to start with the powers my superhero will have. He will be able to shot flames from his hands, create and throw fireballs and he will be able to fly using currents of heat waves that come from his body.

Now that I know what powers my hero will have I can come up with a name for him and I will name him Fire Bug. He will be a young man in his early twenties with black hair in his civilian life, but he will have flaming hair when he’s Fire Bug. Now lets design his costume.

This is going to be a very basic drawing just to see what the costume will look like. First I’ll start with basic shapes for the body front, back and side view using a simple pose.

Fire Bug won’t be wearing a mask so I can put in the facial features, the flaming hair and put in some muscle tone.

Now I can put in the costume design.

I’ll add some color with color pencils and I’m done.

If you would like to see more detail of how to do this check out my How To Make Your Own Superhero video and then go create your own comic book superhero and see how much it can be.

Be sure to check out my posts on creating female superheroes and creating a super villain.

Get Your Self-Published Comic Book Printed At comiXpress

The last couple of weeks I have been talking about self-publishing your own comic books, (although last week I really just showed you more of my self-published comic). Today I want to tell you about a site where you can get your comics printed at a very good price.

The name of the site is comiXpress. It has been online since 2004 and was founded by comic creators to help indie, self-publishing and small-press comic book creators get their comic book characters out to the public in print.

They print short runs and print on demand at sizes of standard, mini, zine and digest comic book sizes. They also print trade paperbacks, posters and flyers. You can also sell your comics on their site.

Maybe you’re a comic creator that doesn’t have the money to have thousands of your self-published comics printed in hopes that they will sell. Maybe you just want a hundred printed or have your comic printed as it sales. Than you should really check into comiXpress.

Troy is now publishing two of his own comic books. One is Wild Breed and Snuffy The Vampire Rabbit. I did a post about Troy and hisself-published comic book awhile back. Visit Troy’s Myspace page for more information on his comics. Meanwhile checkout Troy’s pages from Area 13 issue one.

Oh and by the way you can purchase this book by clicking the Buy Now button under the cover.
